Watch dramedies and classics at Dubai’s independent cinema.
Lights, camera, films. Cinema Akil, the independent cinema, has announced the return of its Hong Kong film festival.
Taking place from 2 to 8 November at Cinema Akil’s Alserkal Avenue location, the Hong Kong Film Gala Presentation will feature eight films. These works capture the essence of Hong Kong’s film scene. You can look forward to various genres, from romantic movies to action-packed thrillers and much more.
The festival kicks off with the opening film True Love, For Once in My Life, which follows the story of Jingfen as she deals with a failed marriage. The filmmaker Siu Koon-ho will attend the screening. On 3 November, Cinema Akil will see Andy Lo Yiu-fai and his movie Once in a Blue Moon, which is centred around family dynamics during the pandemic. This will be followed by Time Still Turns the Page, which touches upon sensitive subjects, on the same day.
On 4 November, the director of crime-thriller Dust to Dust, Jonathan Li will also be present for the screening. The next day will see Stuntman, followed by Love Lies on 6 November, which is centered around online dating. The last two days will screen A Better Tomorrow, while Wong Kar Wai’s In The Mood for Love closes the festival.
In addition to movie screenings, the Hong Kong Film Gala Presentation will feature Q&A sessions and panel discussions. Expect to interact with actress Gladys Li and Kevin Ma, among many others.
