The world’s first escape room thriller is streaming on Starzplay.

Specter: BlackOut, the world’s first escape room thriller, is out now. The TV series was shot in Dubai, and is available on Starzplay. So, if you want to scare yourself silly, here’s what you need to know.

Specter: BlackOut is a horror series with a meta concept. The story follows a group of people from different walks of life, as they audition for a horror film in an escape room. Suddenly, they are held in the escape room and things go horribly wrong. While the series includes scary moments, it also makes a commentary on mental health and social injustices.

The cast for Specter: BlackOut includes Allinson Louis Aranha, Joe Mohan, Muhammad Junaid and the director herself, Zenofar Fathuma.

Specter: BlackOut has been created by the Dubai-based filmmaker, Zenofar. She started her film career in the UAE, and is best known for her work on short films. Her previous work includes Ayah, a short film created in association with Firdaus Studio, and Jab South Meets North, which is available on Starzplay Arabia.

Zenofar is a producer, actress and CEO of the indie film production company, Zen Film Productions. The Dubai broadcasting and media production company aims to create content that transcends international barriers.

This isn’t the first time that the UAE has been in the spotlight onscreen. Films shot in the country include Dune, Dune: Part 2, Furious 7, Mission Impossible: Ghost Protocol, Mission Impossible: Dead Reckoning and Star Wars: The Force Awakens.
