Taqwa Bint Ali has reimagined two of the brand’s classic sneakers.
The United Arab Emirates is on trend when it comes to sneakers and streetwear — and even more so when these feature regional collaborations. So it comes as no surprise that Sharjah-based creative Taqwa Bint Ali has partnered with adidas to present new sneaker designs.
Taqwa Bint Ali, an art director from Sharjah, has collaborated with adidas to reimagine the brand’s iconic runners dating back to the early 2000s. While somewhat vintage, these sneakers promise a fresh vibe.
As part of the collaboration, adidas has dropped two sneakers, the Adistar Pose and Megaride Mary-Jane. The pieces take inspiration from ballet shoes but with a sporty twist. The Megaride Mary-Jane sneakers replace laces with velcro and the expected pink with a grey colour palette, while a flexible sole mimics the arch of the feet.
Similarly, the Adistar Pose follows the ballet shoe design and eliminates the tongue of a classic sneaker. It features laces only to fit in with the streetwear style.
Taqwa said of the collaboration, “I wanted my vision for this project to be relatable to all groups of girls, especially in these cities that are so dear to my heart.” This is echoed in the campaign which shows girls — in skirts as well as abayas — flaunting the sneaker. This highlights the designer’s aim to empower women.
This isn’t Taqwa’s first stint with a global brand. Prior to working with adidas, she’s also partnered with Levis’. Her portfolio also includes collaborations with luxury brands such as Fendi and Jean Paul Gaultier. Now with adidas, she aims to showcase the region and its values on an international stage.
The Taqwa Bint Ali x adidas collection is up for sale now across stores and online. Prices for the Adistar Pose start at AED 499, whereas the Megaride Mary-Jane costs AED 799. So grab your pair now and get ready to flaunt.
