Chef Massimo Bottura and New Balance create a special sneaker collab

The sleek sports shoe drops on 27 October.

It’s time to put your most fashionable and foodie foot forward. The world-renowned chef, Massimo Bottura, is stepping away from the kitchen and into the sports world. He has collaborated with New Balance to create a special sneaker, MADE in UK991v2. 

In Massimo Bottura and New Balance’s MADE in UK991v2 video campaign, the sneakers are seen being made in a factory and then transported across Italy. The product is seen travelling by car, train and scooter, and catches the attention of the public. 

The film also pays homage to the 991’s Italian connection, and features special cameos, from the British rapper, Loyle Carner to New Balance’s own designer Dawn Brankley. The advert ends in a restaurant with Massimo himself cooking. He then receives the shoe box – he opens it, touches it, comments on its beauty and concludes “bravo”.

Massimo Bottura hails from Modena, Italy. He is behind the three Michelin-starred restaurant, Osteria Francescana. The restaurant has also topped The World’s 50 Best Restaurants list twice. He is a fan of New Balance’s 991 collection, and has been seen wearing them with everything, from his chef whites to tuxedos. Since its initial debut in 2001, New Balance’s 991 has been a trailblazer in contemporary running shoe design. The shoe has gained popularity in Italy, particularly among individuals employed in creative fields.

The new Made in UK 991v2 edition is an evolved iteration of its predecessor. Constructed with refined suede, its mesh upper is accentuated with synthetic elements that contribute to a more streamlined silhouette.

New Balance was formed in 1906, and the headquarters are in Boston, United States. The company is best known for its sports shoes. New Balance’s 991 collection was first launched in 2001, and is aimed at runners.

Balance’s MADE in UK991v2 will be available online and in stores from 27 October.
