The superstar singer succeeds Virgil Abloh.

Who can forget one of the red carpet’s greatest fashion moments? Pharrell Williams’ Vivienne Westwood Buffalo Hat at the Grammy Awards was the stuff that memes are made of. So, it is no surprise that Pharrell is adding another string to his bow, as Louis Vuitton has announced that he will be the new men’s creative director.

Pharrell’s first collection will be unveiled in June during Paris Fashion Week. The singer has been chosen for his boundary-breaking qualities and his alignment with the fashion house’s entrepreneurship, innovation and pioneering spirit.

Pietro Beccari, Louis Vuitton’s Chairman and CEO, declared: “I am glad to welcome Pharrell back home, after our collaborations in 2004 and 2008 for Louis Vuitton, as our new Men’s Creative Director. His creative vision beyond fashion will undoubtedly lead Louis Vuitton towards a new and very exciting chapter.”

Pharrell takes over from Virgil Abloh, who unexpectedly passed away in 2021. Virgil was the first black artistic director at Louis Vuitton and is credited with opening up the brand to a younger demographic.

Pharrell’s appointment may come as a shock to the fashion industry. He is best known as a producer and rapper as part of Neptunes and N.E.R.D. He has won 13 Grammy Awards and has hit songs ranging from Beautiful to Frontin’. Plus, he received an Oscar nomination for the song Happy, which was from the soundtrack to the animated film Despicable Me 2

The never-ageing Pharrell does have some impressive fashion and beauty (obviously) credentials up his sleeve. He co-founded the streetwear label, Billionaire Boys Club. He collaborated with brands including Adidas, Chanel and Tiffany & Co. He also worked with Louis Vuitton’s designer Marc Jacobs, and created and eyewear line. Plus, he launched the skincare line, Humanrace.

Strut your stuff, Pharrell.
