The upcoming routes will work towards establishing Dubai as a 20-minute city.

Dubai has been witnessing an influx of new residents and tourists, and that’s evident from the traffic we’ve seen on the roads in recent months. We’ve all been there, right? Stuck in that soul-sucking Dubai traffic for what feels like an eternity. But things are about to change because expansion plans for the Dubai Metro have just been unveiled.

Earlier, it was announced that the Dubai Metro was gearing up to unveil some fresh new routes. And now, it has been shared that the number of metro stations will double up. This means the existing count of 55 metro stations will jump to 96 in 2030 and 140 by 2040, covering a total of 228 square kilometres.

The new metro upgrading plans are expected to decrease the UAE’s carbon footprint and work towards establishing Dubai as a 20-minute city.

In October last year, the RTA announced that a Blue Line was in the pipeline, poised to be a transport game-changer. This Blue Line is set to cover a total length of 30km and approximately 15.5km of it will run underground, covering five stations. The remaining 14.5km will traverse above ground which will include seven stations, providing panoramic views of the city’s stunning skyline. The Blue Line will connect the existing Red and Green lines.

But wait, there’s more. Yellow, Purple, and Pink lines are also under development. Plus, the Dubai RTA is bringing a further expansion of the Red Line along for the ride. These exciting routes will cover Muhaisanah, International City, Academic City, The Villa, Damac Hills, Al Maktoum International Airport, Jumeirah Village Circle, Nad al Sheba, and even more of Barsha, leading right up to the ever-evolving Palm Jebel Ali.

While the Dubai Metro expansion project is just getting started, it’s already shaping up to be a game-changer for public transportation in the city. So whether you’re all about the hustle and bustle of Dubai’s vibrant streets or you prefer a more serene journey, the new metro routes will have you covered.
