What is Emirati Women’s Day?

Emirati Women’s Day was first celebrated in 2015. Her Highness Sheikha Fatima bint Mubarak Al Ketbi, popularly known as the Mother of the Nation and wife of the late His Highness Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan, the UAE’s Founding Father, was the brains behind this celebration. She has been an advocate for women’s rights and empowerment and chose the specific date to coincide with the anniversary of the founding of the UAE’s General Women’s Union (GWU) in 1975.
