Burj Khalifa has some competition from this one-kilometre-tall tower.

We love megaprojects at FACT. So, we were excited to hear about Kuwait’s latest development, Burj Mubarak. The tower aims to stand at one kilometre, becoming the world’s tallest building.

Burj Mubarak will be located in Madinat Al Hareer, also known as the Silk City project. The tower draws its inspiration from one of the region’s greatest stories, 1,001 Arabian Nights.

Burj Mubarak

So far, we know that Burj Mubarak will be home to 234 floors, which can house up to 7,000 people. The development will include hotels, residences, offices and vertical villages. The tower will consist of three interlocking, twisting structures. Plus, it will be able to withstand vibrations and winds of 150 miles per hour.

Construction for Burj Mubarak is set to begin after the Jaber Causeway has been completed. We’ll have to wait a while to see the tower come to life, as it is scheduled to be completed within 25 years. However, Silk City is expected to be completed in 2023, and plans to be a modern metropolis.

Burj Mubarak

If you want to put Burj Mubarak into perspective with Burj Khalifa, here are some mind-boggling statistics. Dubai’s architectural wonder is 828 metres tall, and spans 160 stories. Construction for the Burj Khalifa began in 2004, and was completed in 2009. The building was officially opened in 2010, and is home to a hotel, residences and restaurants.
