The trailblazer has broken ground as a female pilot.
The UAE is filled with trailblazers. The latest is Her Highness Sheikha Mozah Al Maktoum has stolen the spotlight in aviation with her mind-blowing achievements.
HH Sheikha Mozah just gave her Instagram followers a total heart-melter. She shared a video from when she was 19 and had piloted her very first Emirates passenger flight. And the sweetest part: her mother was aboard the flight too to show her support.
In the touching video, HH Sheikha Mozah was seen in tears of joy, hugging her mother. The caption accompanying this emotional video highlighted how her mom has been the ultimate cheerleader in her aviation adventures. She wrote: “My first passenger flight on Emirates at 19-years-old. Mum kept her promise and came on my first flight. Unforgettable. Extremely grateful. I love you beyond words.”
Sheikha Mozah’s desire to reach for the skies started a long time ago. She was only 12 years old, holidaying in the UK, when she realised she wanted to fly. She had her first flying lesson in the same year and at the age of 13, she gave skydiving a shot. Her love for the great blue sky knew no bounds. And at the age of 17, Sheikha Mozah enrolled at Oxford Aviation Academy, one of the world’s leading commercial pilot training schools. She was also the youngest student there.
In 2019 when she proudly became the first Emirati woman to join the esteemed Dubai Police as a helicopter pilot. In May 2022, she became the first woman to pilot the groundbreaking AW609 tiltrotor, an aircraft that seamlessly melds the vertical capabilities of a helicopter with the performance attributes of an aeroplane. Later, she also became the pioneer of the world’s first public flight of the two-seater eVTOL.
HH Sheikha Mozah’s journey is a shining example of turning dreams into reality. Her story and her trailblazing spirit is lighting up a path for other dreamers, showing that the sky’s just a starting point.
