Many local small businesses are coming together to help the people of Gaza.

Palestine finds itself amid a dire humanitarian crisis, prompting a global response in solidarity with the struggling population. The UAE has emerged as a key player in these relief efforts, going above and beyond to assist. To facilitate aid, the Emirates Red Crescent has established an official channel for donations. However, the generosity doesn’t end there. Numerous local businesses within the UAE are actively contributing to the relief mission in Gaza. This collective effort serves as a beacon of hope for those facing adversity in the region. Here is a list of local businesses actively involved in assisting the people in Gaza:

All Things Acai

Delivering healthy meals to people across Abu Dhabi, Dubai and Sharjah, All Things Acai is also one of the concepts in the UAE that will be donated to those affected by the humanitarian crisis in Gaza. “We are devastated by what’s going on in Gaza,” they wrote on Instagram. “This month, every purchase made will help us donate 100% of our profits to PCRF.”

Arabs Complex

UAE-based local business Arab Complex sells some of the best T-shirts in the region. This time around, they’ve made a special T-shirt for Palestine and promised to share 100 per cent of the profits from its sale to Emirates Red Crescent. “All proceeds/profits will be donated to Tarahum for Gaza to help those affected,” they shared on their Instagram with photos of the Palestine T-shirts.

Bait Maryam

Bait Maryam, a homegrown Levantine dining concept in Dubai, is a favourite among the masses here. With a Bib Gourmand & Service Award and a nominee for the FACT Dubai Dining Awards Dubai 2023, Bait Maryam has voiced its support for Palestine. “Starting Wednesday, 18 October, until Tuesday, 24 October, Bait Maryam will donate 100 per cent of its profits to support the innocent civilians trapped in Gaza through Emirates Red Crescent,” they shared on Instagram. “Additionally, Bait Maryam will match the profits, donating to the Palestine Children’s Relief Fund (PCRF).”

Cakes by Zoya

Cakes by Zoya, a dessert shop in Dubai that provides baking and cake decorating classes, also shows its support for the humanitarian crisis in Palestine. Taking to social media, the page shared: “We will be doing a round of cookie bundles and brownie bundles for 29 October, from which 100 per cent of the profits will be donated to Emirates Red Crescent to Taharum for Gaza.”

Hair care products by Collective have been taming manes in Dubai for quite a while. Now, it’s giving back to the community. The hair care brand has promised to donate 100 per cent of its sales to Tarahum for Gaza.

Made in Dubai, Dabdub offers a range of baby products without using harsh chemicals that may be harmful to them. Since the formation of the brand, founder Joelle Mardinian has been adamant about giving back to the community, which is why it’s always at the forefront of raising awareness for orphanage projects. The conflict in Palestine is a humanitarian crisis that’s leaving many children without parents or guardians, and to help them Dabdub is donating 100 per cent of its profits from sales in October to the Emirates Red Crescent.

Dukkan El Baba, a Syrian and Lebanese sandwich shop in Barsha, is encouraging donations by offering free lunch to those who’ve contributed to the people of Palestine. Taking to Instagram, Dukkan El Baba shared, “Share a receipt of AED 150+ donation to any Palestinian fund relief and your lunch at Dukkan is on us.” They also shared that choices of donation include Emirates Red Crescent and PCRF.

Homegrown food concept, Mama Rita, backed by mother-daughter duo Rita Kahawaty and Jessica Kahawaty, has also promised to donate 100 per cent of its revenue to those affected in Gaza. Those wishing to lend a helping hand can purchase a juice, wrap, popsicle, or any other item from the Mama Rita menu and proceeds from it will be donated to the people of Palestine.

The Giving Movement was founded by Dominic Nowell-Barnes. After moving to the UAE in 2017, he was motivated to use fashion as a vehicle of positive change and launched the e-commerce brand in 2020. The company aims to alter the way fashion is consumed while shedding light on conscious consumerism. Designed and made in the UAE, The Giving Movement’s fashion-forward essentials are all about reducing waste and using recycled and organic materials. The brand is currently pledging all of its donations to the UAE’s humanitarian efforts for Gaza.


The Flip Side

Dubai’s independent record shop, The Flip Side is also helping the people of Gaza. The brand has organised a Voices for Palestine fundraiser taking place on 28 October at Alserkal Avenue, which will bring together a music showcase, panel discussions and many more activities. Proceeds from this fundraiser will be given to the Emirates Red Crescent to help people in Palestine.
