Meet the athletes who are going for gold.
On your marks, get set, Olympics. The 2024 Paris Olympics is taking place from 26 July to 11 August. The event brings together approximately 206 countries and 2,900 athletes. Team UAE includes 14 athletes across athletics, cycling, equestrian, judo and swimming.
Maryam Al Farsi will compete in the athletics 100-metre race at the Stade de France. Safia Al Sayegh has made history as the first female cyclist from the UAE to qualify for the Summer Olympics, and she will compete in a 158 kilometre road race.
The UAE’s equestrian team will be competing in the show jumping competition. The team includes Ali Al Karbi, Abdullah Al Marri, Omar Al Marzouqi, Abdullah Humaid Al Muhairi and Salem Al Suwaidi. Omar won a silver medal at the Youth Olympics, and he is expected to make his marks at the Summer Olympics.
The UAE’s judo men include Dhafer Aram, Narmand Bayan, Aram Gregorian, Omar Marouf and Talal Shvili. The judo women include Bashirat Kharoudi.
If you’re wondering where to watch the Olympics, there are a range of places showing the games across the UAE. The 2024 Paris Olympics Opening Ceremony will take place on 26 July at 5:45pm GST. The ceremony will be held on the River Seine, which runs for more than 700 kilometres through the capital. The parade will run for six kilometres, and depart from Austerlitz Bridge and end at the Trocadéro.
In the GCC, the 2024 Paris Olympics will be screened on BeIN Sports. BeIN Sports will broadcast the opening ceremony and events throughout the competitions.
