Royal Opera House Muscat unveils its lineup for the new season

From October to May, expect a number of beautiful performances.

Oman has long been a draw for UAE travellers, with its stunning landscapes and luxurious properties creating an unforgettable escape. But this season, the Royal Opera House Muscat offers a lineup of entertainment that promises to elevate your trip to the Sultanate. Running from October until May, this year’s theme of Timeless Tales and Fabulous Journeys, promises a truly musical escape.

Opening the opera festival on 3 October – for two nights – is Un Ballo in Maschera by Giuseppe Verdi, presented with NCPA Beijing, Elena Stikhina and Piotr Bezcala. On 4 October, A Musical Night from China will showcase NCPA Beijing and the Orchestra Teatro Lirico di Cagliari. The Omani Women’s Day Concert on 17 October will feature the Al Nour wal Amal Orchestra, followed by pianist Nour Ayadi and singer Majida El Roumi, who will perform solo concerts the following two nights, respectively. Nishat Khan and the European Philharmonia Orchestra will come together on stage on 30 and 31 October.

From 7 to 9 November, the Military Music: Oman and the World event will feature performances by Austria and Jordan. Ahlam will captivate audiences with a solo concert on 14 November whereas jazz enthusiasts can look forward to Anthony Strong in concert with the Latvian Radio Big Band on 28 and 29 November.

The season continues with Donizetti’s La Fille du Regiment starring Jessica Pratt and Antonio Siragusa from 5 to 7 December, followed by The Piano Duel featuring Aristo Sham and Nikolai Kuznetsov on 6 December. On 19 and 20 December, U-Theatre will wow crowds with an acrobatic show called Sword of Wisdom. And ending the year on a high note, Erwin Schrott with the St Petersburg Northern Symphonia will offer a Romantic Evening of Music on 31 December.

The Folk Music Festival on 16 and 17 January will feature performers from Bulgaria, South Korea, and Paraguay, whereas Simon Boccanegra by Verdi will be presented by the Mariinsky Orchestra and conducted by Valery Gergiev, from 23 to 25 January. 6 and 7 February will see the ballet, One Thousand and One Nights by Fikret Amirov and the Mohamed Abdul Wahab Festival will run from 15 to 27 February. However, on 21 February, Thomas Hampson will perform with the Muscat Philharmonic Orchestra. 

The Ramadan Series will begin in March 2025, featuring Omani and regional musicians on 13, 20 and 24 March. On 10 and 11 April, Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone will be screened with a live performance by the Armenian State Symphony Orchestra. This will be followed by the family opera Robin Hood by Michele Dall’Ongaro on 18 and 19 April. Yemeni music with Traditional Symphonies will be on display on 24 and 25 April.

Yusif Eyvazov and Juliana Grigoryan come together for La Traviata from 1 to 3 May, followed by Placido Domingo headlining the Gala Symphony Concert with the Royal Oman Symphony Orchestra on 3 May. After running for two nights, the season closes on 9 May with a flamenco show Memories of Alhambra by Compania Flamenca Antonio Andrade.
