Onside in Doha: Cinema Akil’s pop-up with films and food trucks

Dubai’s Fi’lia and Tandoor Tina are opening food trucks in Qatar.

Lights, camera, football. As the spotlight is on Qatar ahead of the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022, there is an exciting pop-up coming to the country. The open-air cinema Onside in Doha launches from 20 November, and here’s how you can join the fun.

Ennismore, the cool lifestyle hospitality brand behind SLS, Mondrian and 25hours Hotels, is teaming up with Cinema Akil to create Onside in Doha. The cinema meets culinary venture will be located in the Msheireb district in Downtown Doha. Onside’s programme includes 13 award-winning films, which celebrate football and its culture.

Sit under the stars, watch arthouse movies and give your popcorn an upgrade. At Onside there will be food trucks aplenty, which hail from some of Ennismore’s back catalogue. Italian restaurant Fi’lia, which is famous in Dubai for being a female-led restaurant, serves Mediterranean food with a twist. The dishes are based on recipes, which have been passed down from one generation to the next. Diners can indulge in handmade artisanal pasta and pizza.

Fi’lia is also opening Fi’lia Dolce, a modern Italian delicatessen and Pasticceria. Specialising in freshly baked pastries and cakes, the menu includes dishes ranging from tiramisu to New York cheesecake.

Tandoor Tacos is a spin of Dubai’s fine dining Indian restaurant Tandoor Tina. The food truck serves paratha breads, which fuse Indian and Mexican flavours, spices and pickles. The menu includes five paratha tacos: tikka chika: chicken tikka jalfrezi, pickled onion, cucumber, pomegranate, coconut and coriander; or chickpeas, ginger, garlic and chilli, pickled cucumber, endive and coriander.
