Greek restaurant Philotimos opens in Dubai’s Dar Wasl Mall

The team behind BB Social Dining have created the new concept. 

Does the sound of Greek mezes and grills get your stomach rumbling? Well then, it’s time to put the homegrown Greek restaurant Philotimos on your radar. Located in Dar Wasl Mall in Dubai, the concept is bought to you by the group behind BB Social Dining and looks set to be an exciting new dining destination. 

Philotimos has been created by BB Social’s co-founders Spero Panagakis and Alexander Stumpf. The name means “love of honour” in Greek, as the venue aims to create a humble and authentic dining experience – no white tablecloths here. Instead, it has that bright, airy and classic nautical feel with blue and white décor. Think blue shutters with white walls and blue and white striped cushions. 

The menu is divided into two sections: mezes and grills. The mezes include smaller mesedopoleo portions, which are ideal for sharing. The grills include meats, fish, vegetarian and vegan dishes, and you can watch as they are cooked on the live-fire grill. Priding itself on locally sourced ingredients, the restaurant aims to support local produce and farms.  

Spero explains: “Our overall approach to sustainability is reinforced by our love of community. Philotimos promises to bring the communities of Dubai a cuisine full of Greek traditions, with the simple yet intense flavours that you would expect from a local village, when passing through, or simply going to visit family and friends.” 

Alexander adds: “The similarity between the Greek and Arab culture became clearer and clearer as we were building the concept from the sharing style to the love of simple, perfectly seasoned, family-friendly dishes.”
