The famous French gallery is making its way to Saudi Arabia.

AlUla has magnificent hotels, world-famous concerts and thrill-seeking experiences. Now, it is welcoming a new contemporary art museum courtesy of France’s Centre Pompidou. The Royal Commission for AlUla announced the news, which brings the world-famous gallery to the spectacular site.

AlUla’s Centre Pompidou will showcase 21st century artwork by regional artists, plus North African and South Asian artists. The two centres will create a partnership and share artworks, curators and expertise. Plus, the art gallery will host world-class exhibitions and events.

AlUla’s Centre Pompidou will be designed as an archipelago of pavilions. The site will include artist’s gardens, which aim to bridge the gap between Arab and global artists.

Nora Aldabal, Arts AlUla Executive Director, Royal Commission for AlUla, explained: “Our collaboration with Centre Pompidou is another important step in our goal of empowering a thriving community of local artists, and driving knowledge and skills within the sector as we create viable opportunities for economic advancement as part of our continued transformation into a Living Museum.”

The Centre Pompidou is located in Paris, and opened in 1977. The site houses artworks, literature, and is one of the city’s most striking buildings. If the Richard Rogers and Renzo Piano design is anything to go by, we’re expecting AlUla’s Centre Pompidou to be just as impressive.

AlUla is one of the most impressive historical sights in Saudi Arabia, as it combines history with modernity. The area is home to a UNESCO World Heritage Site and boasts more than 2,000 years of history. Plus, FAME: Andy Warhol in AlUla is currently underway, and brings together the American artist’s most famous paintings and prints to AlUla’s Maraya.

Art awaits.
