The Monte Carlo brand offers Mediterranean cuisine and live-fire cooking.
Dinner in the desert can be a dazzling experience, especially if the desert in question is AlUla in Saudi Arabia. The Monte Carlo brand SASS is making its return to the Kingdom, and it will serve its signature Mediterranean cuisine at a seasonal venue in AlUla.
SASS Monte Carlo opened in 1993, and is a celebrity hotspot. Famous faces who have been spotted there include Bono, Eva Longoria, Michael Jordan and Seal. Designed by G&M Design, SASS AlUla reflects the OG SASS Monte Carlo. The colour scheme includes burgundy, black and gold, and the textures range from leather to velvet. Plus, SASS AlUla will also offer a dinner and a DJ experience.
SASS AlUla’s menu combines Mediterranean cuisine with Uruguayan open-fire cooking techniques. If last season’s pop-up is anything to go by, the set menu starts at SAR 650 per person and is superb for sharing. The starters include Burnt Orange Salad with quinoa, granola, and parmesan; Crispy Squid with tartare sauce; and Truffle Pizza.
The main courses range from a Butcher’s Selection of the day to a Black Cod with yuzu miso sauce. The desserts include a Chocolate Fondant, Smoked Banana Dulce De Leche and Smoked Pineapple Sorbet. Plus, in homage to the location, there is a Date Ice Cream.
AlUla is home to a range of exciting experiences. AlUla Moments include concerts, culture and cuisines. Winter at Tantora runs from 19 December to 11 January 2025 and includes poetry nights and a citrus festival.
SASS AlUla is open from Tuesday to Saturday from 8pm to 2am.
