Located in Hegra, the hotel is home to fine dining restaurants, a café and a spa.
The Chedi is known for creating unique hotel experiences in historical sights. The brand can be found in Oman, Switzerland and Sharjah in the United Arab Emirates. Now, it’s bringing its signature style to Saudi Arabia with The Chedi Hegra, which will be the first hotel in AlUla’s UNESCO World Heritage Site, Hegra.
The Chedi Hegra is now open and is located in the heart of the ancient Nabataean site. The hotel is home to 35 rooms, a café, a spa and a swimming pool. Accommodations range from Chedi Deluxe Rooms to a Duplex Suite and a Two-Bedroom Pool Villa.
The fine dining experiences take place in Hegra Fort, the old Hegra Railway Station, and a sunken water basin with unobstructed views of the Hegra historical site. Prima Classe Restaurant invites diners on a culinary journey, tracing a path from the romance of Paris and Venice to the vibrant flavours of Cairo and Tangier. Embracing the elegance and nostalgia of luxury train travel, a black and red Locomotive 964 steam engine sits in the centre of the restaurant, while old railway tracks are preserved beneath glass panels in the floor.
The elegant yet inviting Al Mahatta is a haven of indulgence and offers handcrafted pastries, desserts, coffees, and mocktails. With Saudi Arabia’s nutrient-rich Khawlani coffee is recognised on UNESCO’s List of Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity, The Chedi Hegra’s Saudi Coffee House allows you to experience this heritage firsthand with a cup of Khawlani or traditional qahwa, brewed in a dallah and infused with aromatic cardamom. The venue pays tribute to Saudi Arabia’s five distinct coffee-growing regions, offering an ambience enriched with Arabesque patterns and the warmth of Saudi hospitality.
The Chedi prides itself on preserving historical sights, and the UNESCO Site has not been affected by construction. The hotel has been built into existing structures, which include an old railway station and Hegra Fort. Plus, the structure has be created with a combination of historical mudbrick construction and modern architecture.
“We are delighted to welcome guests to The Chedi Hegra, a landmark destination that celebrates AlUla’s incredible history while providing an unparalleled luxury experience,” said Mahmoud Sakr, General Manager at The Chedi Hegra. “Our vision is to create a retreat where visitors can explore the wonders of Hegra, immerse in the finest hospitality, and connect with the soul of this extraordinary region.”
“The opening of The Chedi Hegra represents a significant moment in the ongoing development of AlUla as a must-visit heritage and cultural destination. This unique property, conceived from the ruins and romance of one of history’s most significant rail routes, offers visitors the rare opportunity to experience the UNESCO site of Hegra at all the most magical hours. This boutique property is the epitome of AlUla’s vison to be a leading tourism destination that prioritises sustainable place-making and preserves the culture and natural beauty of the region. We are excited to see The Chedi Hegra become an integral part of AlUla’s journey,” said Phillip Jones, Chief Tourism Officer, Royal Commission for AlUla.
The Chedi Hegra is not the only Chedi property opening in the Kingdom. The Chedi Wadi Safar will be strategically located in one of Saudi Arabia’s most important heritage and cultural destinations at the centuries-old At-Turaif UNESCO World Heritage Site. The Chedi Trojena will serve as a haven for reflection, recreation, and rejuvenation amidst the mountains of NEOM. Drawing inspiration from the rich history of Saudi Arabia and incorporating futuristic elements that complement its awe-inspiring location, guests can expect a plethora of experiences, ranging from thrilling sports and adventures to restorative and meditative activities, all while enjoying uninterrupted views of the serene freshwater lake.
Hospitality and history await.
