AlUla is home to world-class sights and vibrant festivals. Now it is set to welcome the return of AlUla Trail Race. Running from 23 to 24 January, the event welcomes enthusiastic and established runners of all ages and all levels. So if you’d like to challenge yourself in the new year, here’s what you need to do.
AlUla Trail Race takes place in a dramatic landscape across the desert and palm trees. The tracks run through the depths of AlUla, from heritage sites to natural wonders. The tracks range from a 1.6-kilometre kids’ run to a 100-kilometre ultra-marathon.
The Sunset Run is three kilometres long and runs through the AlUla Oasis at sunset. The AlUla Oasis Run is 10-kilometres and travels through the AlUla landscape. The Elephant Rock Run is 23 kilometres long and takes in the spectacular elephant-shaped sight. AlMejdar is 50 kilometres, and gives participants the chance to compete with runners from around the world. Hegra Hundred is 100 kilometres, and the ultimate test of endurance.
Other festivals taking place at AlUla include Ancient Kingdoms Festival from 7 to 30 November, Winter at Tantora from 19 December to 11 January, and AlUla Arts Festival from 16 January to 22 February. AlUla Arts Festival has just been announced, and takes place across locations including Al Jadidah and Old Town. Now in its fourth year, the events include art exhibitions, dance and music performances from local as well as international artists.
