Hello Kitty, full name Kitty White, was designed by Yuko Shimizu. It was originally known as “the white cat with no name”. The now famous name was inspired by Lewis Carroll’s Through The Looking Glass, and the cat called Kitty. In 1974, Hello Kitty was added to the line-up of Sanraio characters.
Hello Kitty was first featured on a vinyl coin purse and has grown in popularity. The character has appeared on a range of items including accessories, clothes and toys, and can been found across the world. Plus, Hello Kitty went on to become a Children’s Ambassador for UNICEF.
