Qiddiya to get a state-of-the-art stadium atop a 200-metre-high cliff

Saudi Arabia has been putting its best foot forward in the sporting realm and now, Qiddiya has officially announced the launch of a state-of-the-art stadium, the Prince Mohammed bin Salman Stadium in Qiddiya City. This 45,000-seat marvel, nestled atop a 200-metre-high Tuwaiq cliff, promises to be a groundbreaking venue, hosting the grandest concerts and sporting spectacles the Kingdom has ever witnessed.

The Prince Mohammed bin Salman Stadium is gearing up to be a multi-functional powerhouse. Serving as the home ground for Saudi Pro League football clubs Al-Hilal and Al-Nassr, this architectural gem is also a prime contender for hosting the Kingdom’s bid for the 2034 FIFA World Cup. 

Designed by global architectural firm Populous, this stadium is set to make history as the world’s first fully integrated venue. Boasting a retractable roof, pitch, and LED wall, it’s a technological marvel. The LED wall, a portal to live event broadcasts, high-definition films, and laser shows, ensures that every visit is an immersive experience. And when not in use, it opens up to showcase breathtaking views of Qiddiya City.

Saudi Arabia’s scorching temperatures won’t hinder the festivities. The Prince Mohammed bin Salman Stadium comes equipped with climate-controlled facilities, allowing it to host events all year round. An eco-friendly cooling lake, ingeniously built beneath the stadium, further reduces energy consumption. This innovative feature pre-cools the air conditioning system by utilising rainwater captured from the stadium and its surroundings, demonstrating a commitment to sustainability.

This stadium is also an access point to Qiddiya City’s Gaming & Esport District and other entertainment options. Surrounded by 50,000 square metres of shopping, dining, and entertainment spaces, it’s a haven for enthusiasts and families alike. Additionally, strategically positioned hotels ensure that visitors have a seamless and unforgettable experience. With an estimated 7.6 million annual visits, the stadium is poised to become the next big thing.
