The Red Sea Project is one of the most exciting megaprojects in Saudi Arabia. Shura Island – previously known as Shurayah Island – is the main hub island at The Red Sea. The island is one of 92 archipelagos and will be home to luxury hospitality experiences.
Shura Island is a dolphin-shaped island, and is packed with wish-you-were-here vistas. The scenery boasts beautiful wildlife spanning fauna and flora. Best of all, visitors don’t have long to wait too long to visit the island, as it is scheduled to open in 2024.
Shura Island will be home to 11 world-class hotels and resorts. The brands include Edition, Faena, Fairmont, Grand Hyatt, InterContinental, Miraval, Raffles, Rosewood and SLS.
One of the hotel highlights includes Jumeirah’s Red Sea offering. As big fans of the Dubai-based brand, we are expecting it to bring its signature luxurious experience to The Red Sea. So far, we know that the resort will be home to 159 rooms.
Sheybarah Resort will be located on the island, and is in its first phase of development. The hotel operator has not yet been confirmed. For those who want a real getaway, this is a 45-minute boat ride from the mainland. So far, we know that guests can spend the night in one of the 73 pod-like rooms, which overlook the sea. Plus, experiences include a restaurant and spa.
If you love diving or snorkelling, then you’ll be thrilled to hear that Shura Island is home to the world’s fourth-largest barrier reef. Plus, attractions include an 18-hole championship golf course, a marina, a beach club and high-end shops.
Shura Island’s greatest Insta-worthy moment comes in the form of the design concept, Coral Bloom. As the name suggests, it draws its inspiration from nature and blends into the landscapes. Designed by the world-renowned British architects, Foster + Partners, it’s a dazzling array of colours.
Getting to the Red Sea will be easy. Shura Island is connected to the mainland via a 3.3-kilometre crossing and a 1.2-kilometre bridge, which is the longest internal bridge in the kingdom. Plus, The Red Sea International Airport is in the works, so you can soon land in the megaproject.
