This is the first time the sports event has taken place in the kingdom.

Congratulations, Saudi Arabia. The kingdom has won the bid to host the AFC Asian Cup 2027. The announcement was made today at the AFC Congress in Manama, Bahrain.

Saudi Arabia is set to host the Asian Cup for the first time. The event includes the women’s Asian Cup, the Asian Games and the Asian Winter Games.

Prince Abdulaziz bin Turki Al-Faisal, Sport and Chairman of the Saudi Olympic & Paralympic Committee, said: “It is an honour to have been chosen as hosts for the AFC Asian Cup 2027 and this is a historic and exciting moment for football in Saudi Arabia. We believe the best days of Asian football are yet to come and we see this tournament as an opportunity to showcase all that’s great about the game here.”

Shaikh Salman bin Ebrahim Al Khalifa, AFC President, added: “Let me congratulate the Saudi Arabian Football Federation for being selected as the hosts for the AFC Asian Cup 2027. This will be the first time the tournament will be staged in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, and we look forward to working closely with the SAFF and the Saudi Arabian Government to deliver a memorable AFC Asian Cup for our fans and players in 2027.”

Saudi Arabia has already proven itself on the world sporting stage, as it is welcoming major sports events including Formula 1 Saudi Arabian Grand Prix 2023 and LIV Golf tour. Plus, it recently signed the footballing legend, Cristiano Ronaldo, to play with Al Nassr.

The announcement comes after all eyes were on the Middle East for the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022. Qatar will be home to AFC Asian Cup 2023, and the tournament takes place every four years. Qatar won the last edition in 2019, which was hosted by the United Arab Emirates. Plus, Saudi Arabia has won three AFC Asian Cup titles IN 1984, 1988 and 1996.
