Saudi Arabia is home to world-class sports events, from boxing to football. Now, it is set to welcome Desert Polo in AlUla. Running from 16 to 18 January, the event is part of the Winter at Tantora Festival and brings together players from around the world.

Desert Polo has been organised by the Royal Commission for AlUla and the Saudi Polo Federation, and Richard Mille is the official timekeeper. The participants include a member of the Mille family, and brand partner Pablo Mac Donough.

Donough hails from Buenos Aires, Argentina. He began playing polo with his family from a young age. His wins include the Argentine Open, British Open, Hurlingham Open and Tortugas Open. He has more than 10 goals under his belt.

Peter Harrison, CEO of Richard Mille EMEA, explained: “We are proud to be part of this significant event and to support the continuous development of polo in Saudi Arabia. The AlUla region provides the perfect natural stage to witness some of the greatest polo stars on the planet in action”.

Desert Polo takes place in the depths of the desert. The soaring sights, dramatic landscape and the UNESCO World Heritage Site, Hegra, act as the backdrop. Sports events in AlUla have attracted a star-studded crowd. In March 2023, the Hollywood actor, Will Smith, attended the AlUla Camel Cup.

If you’re looking for more fun things to do in AlUla, it will be hosting a range of festivals. The AlUla Trail Race takes place from 23 to 24 January, and the AlUla Arts Festival runs from 16 January to 22 February.
