AMAALA to host the final leg of The Ocean Race 2027
This is the first time the race will be heading to the Red Sea.
Saudi Arabia is putting in all the effort to establish itself as a global hub for sports, entertainment, sustainability and much more. As part of this goal, the Kingdom will host the final leg of The Ocean Race 2027 at AMAALA.
Taking place over the summer, The Ocean Race 2027 will be making its way to the Red Sea. This move not only brings this massive tournament to Saudi Arabia but also aligns with the region’s sustainability and preservation plans.
The Ocean Race 2027 will kick off in January 2027 in Spain, and sail around the world, returning back to Europe. It’ll then set sail for Egypt, where the entire fleet will gather for the final part of the race. From there, the boats will go through the Suez Canal to the Red Sea, to reach the finish line at AMAALA.
The Ocean Race is one of the most challenging and respected sailing competitions in the world, bringing global attention to ocean health and climate issues. It began in 1973 and features teams of sailors taking to the oceans and extreme weather conditions, as they navigate around the globe. This tests both their endurance and their teamwork.
However, The Ocean Race isn’t just a sports tournament. It also highlights the need to protect the oceans which is why alongside the races, there are educational programs and projects focused on marine conservation, making it a perfect fit for AMAALA.
AMAALA is dedicated to wellness, sustainability and nature. This Red Sea region is home to many coral reefs and rare marine species and is already working to conserve these resources. To prepare for the race, AMAALA’s Triple Bay marina facility will feature the Corallium Institute, which will serve as both a marine research centre and a place for visitors to learn about ocean conservation.
Hosting the finale of The Ocean Race 2027 at AMAALA is a big moment for Saudi Arabia. It’s the first time the race will end in the Kingdom, bringing a global spotlight to the Red Sea destination and its efforts to protect marine life and promote tourism. Plus with upcoming resorts such as Clinique La Prairie, Equinox, Four Seasons, Rosewood, and Six Senses opening in AMAALA soon, this tournament couldn’t have come at a better time.
