Promoter Eddie Hearn said that the location will soon be confirmed.
Saudi Arabia is fast becoming an international sporting destination. The Kingdom has hosted prestigious events, from Saudi Arabian Grand Prix to the Rage on the Red Sea boxing match. Now, promoter Eddie Hearn has stated that the Anthony Joshua and Deontay Wilder fight could come to the Kingdom.
Eddie explained: “We hope it’s imminent. That’s why he wanted the Dillian Whyte fight, it’s hard for him to get up to fights like this. If he hits Wilder on the chin then it’s over. This is about Anthony Joshua now, it’s not about pleasing others. He’s given everything to British boxing.”
The news comes after the fight between Anthony and Robert Helenius in London’s O2 Arena on 13 August. Anthony won the fight with a one-punch knockout in round seven. Robert needed oxygen assistance but left the ring unassisted. Plus, Saudi Arabian representatives were in attendance and watched the match.
In August 2022, Saudi Arabia hosted Rage on the Red Sea between Anthony Joshua and Oleksandr Usyk. Plus, the Kingdom hosted its first-ever female boxing match between British Somali Ramla Ali and Dominican Republic’s Crystal Nova.
In the last year, Saudi Arabia has been making sports headlines. The Kingdom has made offers to legendary football players. Cristiano Ronaldo and Karim Benzema have made the move. Liverpool’s Fabinho is joined Al-Ittihad, and Liverpool’s Jordan Henderson signed with Al-Ettifaq. Plus, PSG’s Kylian Mbappe was reportedly offered a SAR 1.2 billion offer from a Saudi Pro League club, which rivals any transfer in the history of football.
We’re excited.
