The football legend is heading to the Kingdom.

Steven Gerrard, the British football legend, has just landed a seriously cool gig. He’s been named the head coach of Saudi Arabia’s Al-Ettifaq football team. Steven, who rocked the Premier League with his time at Aston Villa, is now set to lead the charge for the team based in Dammam and they’re gearing up for the epic 2023/2024 season, which kicks off on 11 August.

The signing of Steven by Al Ettifaq might just be the start of something epic. Steven bid farewell to Aston Villa in October 2022 after an 11-month-long gig. Before that, he served as a manager to Rangers who snagged the Scottish Premiership title in 2021.

Rumour has it that the club has now got its eyes on some players from Liverpool, Chelsea and Aston Villa. One of their main targets is Liverpool’s very own captain, Jordan Henderson and Chelsea’s superstar striker, Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang. And with Steven’s track record, it’s clear that Al-Ettifaq is in for a wild ride.

Last year, Al Ettifaq nabbed the seventh spot in the Saudi Pro League, but it was Al Ittihad FC who walked away as the champions. Fast forward to this season and things are about to get even wilder. The league is expanding to 18 teams, all vying for that highly-coveted title. And along with Steven, big names like Cristiano Ronaldo and Karim Benzema, who’ve recently shaken things up by joining Al Nassr and Al Ittihad respectively, will also be in attendance.

Steven’s arrival as the head coach of Al Ettifaq marks a significant step for both the club and the Saudi Pro League. With their sights set on glory, the club is ready to splash the cash and build a team that’ll give the established giants a run for their money.
