Review: Bô Barbershop
Experience a clean shave and a sick fade at this new Dubai barbershop.
Finding a barber that you feel comfortable with is no easy task, especially in a city as overwhelming as Dubai. With so many options for a quick trim, some sophisticated styling or essential grooming available, finding somewhere that suits both your needs and personality can sometimes be a struggle.
A brand new spot with plenty of character is shaking things up when it comes to male grooming in the city! A blending of suave service with hip interiors and a dynamic group of skilled barbers, Bô Barbershop is making waves, and we’re not just talking about hair!
You’ll find the small shop tucked away in The Bay Gate in Dubai’s Business Bay neighbourhood and while unassuming from the outside, what this gentleman’s grooming paradise lacks in stature, it more than makes up for in execution. The space had been designed an ode to the great outdoors by Fadi Sarieddine, one of Dubai’s acclaimed multidisciplinary designers. We are met with an emanating warmth from the staff from the moment we enter into the shop with its woodgrain panelling, potted plants, mounted surfboards, and shelves stocked with grooming products.
With just three chairs, the Bô Barbershop experience feels personalised and bespoke, and this is largely thanks to the team of affable barbers. Oliver, Mike, Nar and barista, Virgil, welcome customers like old friends and ensure the mood is kept light and banter-fuelled at all times.
Seated upon a tan coloured Belmont chair while sipping speciality coffee from Nightjar coffee roasters, we feel pampered before the barbering experience has begun. Our barber for the day is the charismatic Mike, an artist in terms of both painting and hairstyling, and we find ourselves at ease as we undergo a skilful skin fade and trim with immaculate precision.
What Bô Barbershop excels at is offering quality and simplicity. Only haircuts, shaving and hair treatments are offered, and you won’t find any of the facials, massages and manicures of Bô’s competitors here. As co-owner Oliver Zaituni explains, this is a conscious effort to ensure quality and consistency and provide the personalised services that his customers care about. Having worked in the industry for over 21 years, including time at Truefitt & Hill in London and five years at Dubai barbershop Akin, he brings a wealth of customer knowledge into his latest venture. The name, Bô takes inspiration from the co-owners’ initials, Bilal and the aforementioned Oliver, whose client/barber relationship gradually grew into a firm friendship and later, a business.
Crafting a memorable barbershop experience is no easy feat, but Oliver and his team of skilled champions do just that. From the emphasis on natural and organic products to the gestures and placement of towels, the Bô experience can be likened to the service sequence at an upmarket restaurant. One where the customer is prioritised, takes centre stage and is made to feel special.
One thing’s for sure when visiting Bô Barbershop. Not only will you receive a sick fade and some guaranteed banter, but you’ll come as a customer and leave a friend.
Bô Barbershop is located at The Bay Gate, Al Mustaqbal Street Business Bay and is open from 10am to 8pm weekdays and 10am to 7pm on weekends (closed on Mondays).
