Partner Content: The Southeast Asian restaurant at The St. Regis Saadiyat Island Resort unveils a brand new dinner menu.
With temperatures still hovering around 40ºC, we’re not quite ready to chase sunsets just yet — but a meal at Sontaya comes close. Translating to ‘sunset’ in the Thai language, this Southeast Asian restaurant is understandably popular for its setting among a series of floating pavilions that overlook the Arabian Gulf. And for those unfamiliar with the concept, the time to discover its culinary offerings is circa now as a new à la carte menu has been unveiled.
Revealing a number of Southeast Asian specialities, it traverses Indonesia, Malaysia, Thailand, Vietnam and more, thereby elevating the venue’s atmospheric dining experience to greater heights. And true to its origins, Sontaya’s new menu is rooted in the aromatic flavours of Southeast Asian cuisine. The journey begins with a series of light bites in the form of appetisers like fresh scallops with foie gras, spicy tuna tartare with avocado and black caviar, Vietnamese spring rolls with vegetable tempura and sriracha sauce, and more.
Alongside the existing chargrilled satays, dim sum, and fresh oysters, the enticing menu now includes a selection of soups such as the nourishing Thai tom yum, Malaysian laksa noodle soup, and wholesome beef oxtail soup. Meanwhile, those with a fondness for fish and seafood will gravitate towards mains like black-pepper octopus, pepper soy salmon, and Indonesian-style sea bass. Diners are encouraged to pair Sontaya’s spectacular signatures with the new sides – like the Korean kimchi cabbage and wood ear mushroom salad – on offer.
As for those in need of a little comfort food? The new Indonesian nasi goreng with chicken, tofu and egg as well as the fried char kway teow noodles come highly recommended. A line-up of new dessert creations joins the menu revamp, too, with highlights spanning the Chocolate Pot de Crème with peanut brittle, tropical The Coconut with Lychee sorbet, and indulgent Toffee Pudding.
