Taking place on Saturday, 3 August, at Etihad Arena, the headline match will see Cory Sandhagen and Umar Nurmagomedov come face-to-face for a shot at the title, promising world-class MMA action.
Cory Sandhagen, from the USA, is making his return to Abu Dhabi. He’s won 17 out of his 21 bouts and is known for his strategic approach in the ring. Popularly known as The Sandman, he started off with the World Kickboxing Association and then moved to MMA.
Umar Nurmagomedov, hailing from Russia, is making his Abu Dhabi debut. If you’re wondering where you’ve heard that surname before, it’s because his cousin Khabib Nurmagomedov has won several titles throughout the course of his career as well. And now, he brings his undefeated record of 17 wins of 17 bouts to the capital.
Cory and Umar were supposed to face off last year in Tennessee. However, Umar pulled out from the event, making Cory fight Rob Font. Cory won that match, making this UFC Fight Night a much-anticipated event.
Apart from Sandhagen versus Nurmagomedov, UFC Fight Night will also witness clashes between other legendary MMA stars such as Mackenzie Dern and Loppy Godinez, Tony Ferguson and Michael Chiesa, Shara Magamedov and Michal Oleksiejczuk, and Marlon Vera and Deiveson Figueiredo.
The day before UFC Fight Night, will see several MMA stars at the Octagon for the Ceremonial Weigh-Ins. The likes of Alonzo Menifield, Azamat Murzakanov, Denis Tiuliulin, Don’Tale Mayes, Jai Herbert, Kaue Fernandes, the UAE’s Mohammad Yahya, Rolando Bedoya, Sam Hughes, Sedriques Dumas, Shamil Gaziev and Victoria Dudakova will be in attendance.
