UFC Fight Night will bring together the world’s best mixed martial artists.

UFC’s long-awaited return to the capital is now in sight as UFC Fight Night will take over Etihad Arena on Saturday, 3 August 2024. A continuation of the landmark partnership between UFC and the Department of Culture and Tourism – Abu Dhabi (DCT Abu Dhabi), the event will see the world’s best mixed martial artists face off. The fight card will see No. 2 ranked bantamweight Cory Sandhagen face off against No. 9 ranked Umar Nurmagomedov.

Cory Sandhagen, also known as “The Sandman”, is a rising star in the UFC’s bantamweight division. With a professional MMA career dating back to 2015, the 32-year-old American has impressed audiences with his striking skills, which many consider some of the most strategic in the UFC. A win over the undefeated Nurmagomedov could solidify Sandhagen’s position as a top contender and put him in line for a shot at the bantamweight title.

Nicknamed “The Brother”, Umar Nurmagomedov is a 27-year-old Russian fighter with a perfect professional record of 15 wins and 0 losses. Nurmagomedov’s fighting style shares some similarities with his famed cousin Khabib Nurmagomedov, emphasising grappling and suffocating pressure. However, Umar also possesses sharp striking skills, making him a well-rounded threat inside the Octagon.

Marking the second event in the UAE capital in less than a year, this upcoming event promises to showcase a captivating spectacle as international and local talent step into The Octagon. Expect a thrilling display of skill from some of the sport’s most gifted athletes. This UFC Fight Night will mark the 18th event in Abu Dhabi, tracing its legacy back to UFC 112: INVINCIBLE in April 2010.

Incidentally, a sold-out Etihad Arena witnessed Islam Makhachev successfully defend his lightweight title against UFC’s featherweight champion and beloved figure Alexander Volkanovski, who courageously accepted the challenge on short notice. The momentum of UAE MMA continues to soar as UFC signed its first-ever Emirati athlete, Mohammad Yahya, who made his debut in front of a home crowd at UFC 294.

H.E. Saleh Al Geziry, Director General for Tourism at DCT Abu Dhabi, expressed excitement, stating, “Hosting Abu Dhabi’s inaugural UFC Fight Night marks a significant milestone in our ongoing partnership. Some of UFC’s most iconic moments have unfolded during memorable Fight Nights, and we are thrilled to create more spectacular memories for MMA enthusiasts. As our collaboration with UFC progresses, we aim to provide unforgettable experiences for fans across the region and the millions watching worldwide.”
