iPhone alert: The new features coming to iOS 18
The introduction of Apple Intelligence has hit the headlines.
iPhone users, Apple has announced the new features coming to iOS 18 and the introduction of Apple Intelligence has hit the headlines. The release also includes customisation options, a Photos app redesign and a new way to manage the Mail inbox.
iPhone’s iOS 18 will harness the latest technology. Users will be able to send messages over satellite when a cellular or Wi-Fi connection is not available. The Photos changes include a single view and new collections. The Mail changes include an inbox sorting email into categories.
Safari will be updated with surface key information about a webpage. Users can now lock and hide apps, so that they will not be seen. Plus, users will be able to arrange apps and widgets in any open space on the Home Screen, and customise the buttons at the bottom of the Lock Screen, and quickly access more controls in Control Center.
At the heart of iPhone’s iOS 18’s new features is Apple Intelligence, a personal intelligence system for iPhone, iPad, and Mac. Writing Tools is a new system that can rewrite, proofread and summarise text in Mail, Notes, Pages and third-party apps.
Craig Federighi, Apple’s senior vice president of Software Engineering, explained: “We are thrilled to introduce iOS 18. There are so many benefits for everyone. This release also marks the beginning of a tremendously exciting new era of personal intelligence with Apple Intelligence delivering intuitive, powerful, and instantly useful experiences that will transform the iPhone experience, all with privacy at the core. We can’t wait for users to experience it.”
iOS 18 also introduces a new feature called Genmoji, which lets you design your own emojis using artificial intelligence. AI-generated emojis can be created with text prompts and can be used just like regular emojis: added to messages, shared as stickers, or used as Tapback reactions in the iMessage app.
Better yet, text messages can be scheduled to be sent at a later time, Tap To Cash let’s you pay and transfer money between iPhones, while the introduction of “head shake” airpods allow user to accept or decline calls with a nod or a headshake.
Finally, iOS 18 will enable the recording of phone calls. When you initiate recording during a call, all participants are notified that the conversation is being recorded. Apple Intelligence can then take things a step further by automatically transcribing the call as it happens.
iOS 18 is set to launch in September 2024.
