This announcement propels the capital as an ultimate destination honouring music as an art form.
Abu Dhabi is no stranger to hosting some of the biggest events in the world. Known for its cultural values and connection to the region’s musical heritage, the capital has been at the forefront of this art medium. Now, Abu Dhabi — also a UNESCO Creative City of Music — has been announced as the Global Host for International Jazz Day 2025.
International Jazz Day 2025 — which takes place annually on 30 April — will be hosted in Abu Dhabi next year, promising a celebration of cultural heritage. The event will showcase Arabic Jazz to the world, using instruments such as the Oud, Qanoon, and Ney. Expect concerts featuring local and international jazz artists, showcasing the capital’s commitment to celebrating musical diversity and encouraging young artists.
As part of the International Jazz Day 2025 festivities, Abu Dhabi will also host educational programs and community outreach projects. This means schools across the capital will see plenty of music-related programs to inspire the next generation of artists and jazz musicians. Berklee Abu Dhabi and New York University Abu Dhabi will take the lead in holding workshops and masterclasses. These will encourage aspiring musicians to find their interest in jazz and pursue it as a full-fledged career.
Since its inception in 2011, International Jazz Day has united countries and communities across the world. The day celebrates jazz’s ability to bring people together, promote dialogue, value freedom of expression, human rights, and diversity. With over two billion people reached through educational programs, performances, community outreach, and online platforms, the celebration of International Jazz Day is now making its way to Abu Dhabi.
