Celebrates all things anime with cartoons, cosplay and concerts.

Anime fans, get ready for a colourful day out. Animenia Abu Dhabi is heading to Manarat Al Saadiyat. Running from 23 to 27 October, the festival celebrates the art form with a cosplay competition, fashion stalls and street food.

Animenia Abu Dhabi describes itself as an anime festival like no other, and showcases family-friendly fun. The event brings to life the neon lights of Tokyo and brings it to the heart of the capital. Plus, it fuses the experience with local culture, and includes a range of Arabic artists and cartoons.

Animenia Abu Dhabi

Animenia Abu Dhabi includes a range of events, from fashion stalls selling Harajuku streetwear to street food stalls selling Tokyo treats. Anime-inspired music comes courtesy of J-Pop performers, too.

If you love to dress up, there will also be an Animenia Cosplay Competition. This gives you the chance to unleash your inner superhero and dress up as your favourite character. The judges for the event include Naythero, an art director and martial artist; Rian CYD, a cosplayer and costume maker; Sabcosplay, a cosplayer; SayoChuu, a cosplayer; and Yuegene Fay, a professional cosplayer. The deadline to register is 20 October.

If you’re after another comic fix, then check out Emirati Comics Exhibition. Running until 12 October, the exhibition showcases the work of 21 Emirati artists. The comics bring to life local culture as well as local characters. The stories include props and landscapes, which the communities would recognise, as well as global influences.

Tickets to Animenia Abu Dhabi are available now and start from AED 65.
