Khayal Series: 16 December
The Khayal Series kicks off this season with a deep dive into ‘Stories from Palestine.’ This reading circle will explore the enchanting tale of Saamidah in Baba, What Does My Name Mean? A Journey to Palestine. Saamidah, a young Palestinian, embarks on a quest to understand the meaning behind her name.Â
After the storytelling session, gear up for an arts and crafts adventure, unravelling the intricate world of Tatreez patterns on t-shirts and tote bags. If you’ve got children over six, bring them along and join the fun.
Workshop on Palestinian Maqlouba: 17 December
Calling all foodies for this one. Nada from the 421 team will guide attendees through the art of making Maqlouba, a Levantine dish bursting with Palestinian flavours. This culinary tradition, dating back to the 13th century, involves a delightful mix of meat, rice, and fried vegetables cooked together in a pot. Yes, it’s that viral dish you’ve been seeing everyone where the pot is flipped onto a tray. Plus, you get to try it here too.
Film screenings: 15 and 22 December
In collaboration with Reel Palestine Film Festival and Cinema Akil, 421 brings you an exclusive film program showcasing independent and alternative cinema from Palestine. On 15 December, Catch the emotional journey of the Freedom Dabka Group in Coming Home and the gripping tales of surfers in Gaza Surf Club. On 22 December, Be prepared for a thought-provoking experience with When Light is Displaced and the classic The Dupes. Each evening begins with a short film followed by a feature-length one, with subtitles in English and Arabic.
