UAE, here we go again. The marvellous musical MAMMA MIA! is making its way to Abu Dhabi. Taking place at Etihad Arena from 11 to 22 June, the show brings to life the magic and music of ABBA. So, if you want to feel like you’re on a glamorous Greek island, take a chance on this show.
In 1999, MAMMA MIA! made its debut in the West End, London. It has been running for more than 25 years and attracted an audience of more than 65 million people. The show was written by Catherine Johnson, and produced by Judy Craymer. As a jukebox musical, the songs by ABBA’s Benny Anderson and Bjorn Ulvaeus are at its heart. The hits include Lay All Your Love on Me, SOS, Super Trouper, Thank You For The Music and The Winner Takes It All.
MAMMA MIA! is set on a Greek Island, and follows the relationship between a mother and daughter. Sophie is 20 years old and in search of her father. She discovers her mother’s diary, and finds out who could be her father. And, as she is about to get married, she wants her real father to walk her down the aisle.
In 2008, MAMMA MIA! was made into a feature film. The cast included Amanda Seyfried, Dominic Cooper, Meryl Streep and Pierce Brosnan. In 2018, the sequel MAMMA MIA! Here We Go Again! was released. The cast included Cher, Lily James, Jeremy Irvine and Hugh Skinner.
Tickets to MAMMA MIA! in Abu Dhabi are available now. Tickets for Wednesdays and Thursdays start from AED 125. Tickets for Friday, Saturday and Sunday start from AED 200.
