The Etihad Arena stand-up show takes place on Friday, 23 November.
Here’s some news that will put a smile on your face. Canadian comedian Russell Peters has announced that he’s not only performing at Etihad Arena on Yas Island, Abu Dhabi, but filming his new stand-up special at the show. On Friday, 23 November, fans can participate in the event in this once-in-a-lifetime experience.
Russell hails from Toronto, Canada. He is of Anglo-Indian descent, and grew up learning Jiu-Jitsu to defend himself from bullies, and spinning hip-hop records. He first started performing in the city when he was nineteen years old.
Russell’s signature style includes observational comedy, and he makes jokes about identity politics. Expect jokes to cover race, ethnicity, class and basically any cultural stereotype. He is not afraid to poke fun at himself and his South Asian upbringing.
Over his career, he gained global recognition for his CTV Comedy Now!, and was honoured as one of Rolling Stone’s 50 Best Comics of All Time. He was the first comedian to secure a Netflix Original Comedy Special. Plus, he has won awards including an Emmy, Gemini and Peabody for his hosting, producing, and acting.
Russell has sold out shows across the world. In 2007, he was the first comedian to sell out Toronto’s Air Canada Centre. He has broken attendance records at Madison Square Garden in New York, The Sydney Opera House in Sydney, and the O2 Arena in London. In 2013, The Deported World Tour was seen by 400,000 fans across 40 cities in 20 countries.
