Abu Dhabi is hitting the high notes. Saadiyat Nights has announced that Lionel Richie will be heading to the capital. The American superstar is scheduled to perform on Saturday, 22 February, but tickets are selling fast.
For those unversed with Lionel Richie, he’s been wowing audiences with his melodies and heart-touching lyrics since the late 60s. His titular debut album, released in 1982, shot his career to new heights, and there has been no stopping him since. Over the years, he’s given hits such as Hello, Stuck On You, Penny Lover, and many others.
From his early days as a member of the Commodores, where he penned hits like Easy and Three Times a Lady, to his solo ascent with chart-toppers like Dancing on the Ceiling, Richie has consistently captivated audiences worldwide. His smooth vocals and heartfelt lyrics have solidified his place as one of the most beloved and successful artists of all time.
Lionel Richie’s trophy case is a testament to his enduring success. He’s a Grammy Award winner, having taken home the coveted prize four times, including for Song of the Year for We Are the World and Album of the Year for Can’t Slow Down. Beyond the Grammys, he’s also been honoured with an Academy Award and a Golden Globe for Best Original Song for Say You, Say Me.
Saadiyat Nights is an open-air musical event that takes place on Saadiyat Island. The series has seen performances from Alicia Keys, Andrea Bocelli, Mariah Carey, Robbie Williams and Sting.
Apart from Lionel Richie, other stars taking to the Saadiyat Nights state include Michael Buble on 16 January, Boyz II Men on 25 January, and Christina Aguilera on 15 February.
