Located in M39, Barbassi sandwich shop opens in November.
FACT Dining Award Abu Dhabi winner Marmellata has announced an expansion. The much-loved pizza makers will open a superb sandwich shop called Barbassi. Located in M39 in Abu Dhabi, it is scheduled to open in November.
Barbassi describes itself as a neighbourhood snack bar, and the “kid brother” to Marmellata. The full menu has not yet been unveiled, but diners can expect stuffed focaccia, coffee and cake. Given the restaurant’s background, we are expecting an Italian inspiration and queue-worthy sandwiches.
Barbassi has been created by the team behind Marmellata. In 2019, it was created by Raj and Sebastian Dagstani, a father and son duo. The brand is famous for its popular pizzas, which have a firm following in Abu Dhabi. When the concept launched, it was only one night a week and quickly became the talk of the town with diners queuing up.
If you can’t wait for Barbassi to launch, check out Marmellata. In 2023, it opened a new restaurant with 25 indoor seats and 25 outdoor seats. The menu includes its famously fresh focaccia and what they call New York-ish pizzas. Plus, toppings range from the popular pepperoni with garlic confit and spicy honey to kale and oyster mushrooms.
When Barbassi opens, it will boast a range of cool concepts as its neighbours and it will be located in Mina Zayed. M39 in Abu Dhabi is home to co-working spaces, studios and offices.
Barbassi will open from Monday to Friday from 10am to 4pm.
