Located in Al Zahiyah, the concept puts the artichoke in the spotlight.

It’s not often that a restaurant is inspired by an artichoke. The new restaurant Alya in Abu Dhabi has been influenced by the vegetable, and offers fine dining Lebanese food. Located in Beach Rotana Residences in Al Zahiyah, here’s what to expect from the swish spot.

In Arabic, Alya means sky and heaven. The concept aims to celebrate the culture and traditions of the country. Artichoke features on the décor as well as the dishes.

The chefs pride themselves on using fresh and authentic ingredients. The menu has Lebanese classics including hummus in a classic, meat and, of course, artichoke flavours. The beef brisket has been braised for seven hours, and comes with peppers and pine nuts. Dishes also include Lebanese Ceviche, Kabab Halloumi and Mhalabiyeh Cigar. Plus, there is baklava desert with mint and chives.

Alya’s space boasts rustic yet refined décor, and has the soothing sound of the sea. The walls include murals of parrots and plants, and seats range from chairs to long banquettes. The decorative touches include fringed lamps and patterned cushions. Plus, there is an open kitchen so you can watch the chef at work.
