Located in The Galleria Al Maryah Island, this late-night haunt oozes old Hollywood glamour.

“Champagne is one of the elegant extras in life,” said the writer, Charles Dickens. If you’re feeling extra, we would recommend visiting Perlage in Abu Dhabi. Located in The Galleria Al Maryah Island, the new Champagne bar has brought some sparkle to the capital, making every day a celebration.

Perlage has been created by the same team behind the hospitality hits, Galaxy Bar and Flamingo Room by tashas. Restaurateur Natasha Sideris has partnered with Maison Perrier-Jouët to create the Champagne-based menu. The name derives from the French term for a string of pearls and the bubbly effervescence in sparkling drinks like a glass of Champagne.

Perlage

Perlage boasts a sultry speakeasy vibe. Located at the back of Flamingo Room by tashas, it is hidden behind a heavy door – the doorman had to lend us a hand. Once you meander down a dark corridor, you discover an intimate space that can seat up to 50 guests. Take your pick from sofas lining the wall to prime countertop positioning.

Perlage oozes old-school glamour. The décor feels like stepping into a 1920s Hollywood star’s dressing room. The venue boasts shades of red across its small round tables, pillars, and seats, which are punctuated by bursts of grey across its low-lit table lights and disco balls grouped together on the ceiling. The soft velvet textures and artwork add a touch of luxury.

Perlage

Perlage’s drinks menu comes in a little red book, which is soft to the touch and embossed with a gold logo. The ode to bubbles reads like Champagne’s Greatest Cocktail Hits and also includes creative concoctions with playful names. The list includes Born to Be Wild, which is a nod to the Steppenwolf rock song, and How ’bout Them Apples, which is a reference from the film Good Will Hunting

For something on the smoky side, order the Bear in Mind with Maison Perrier-Jouët Grand Brut, Glenlivet, chestnut honey, cedar wood and angostura bitter. For fruit with finesse, order the Holy Mo-Ley with Del Maguey Crema de Mezcal, black truffle, agave nectar, pineapple and citrus.

The knowledgeable staff are on hand to talk you through the menu, and suggest everything from classic to creative flavours – a banana-inspired cocktail, anyone? When it comes to food, we were offered basic bar bites from nuts to olives. If you want to make an evening of it, head to Flamingo Room by tashas beforehand. And then sit back, sip and soak up the vibes – oh, and a shazam-worthy soundtrack with Sade sounds.
