An Arabic-style resort that offers authentic style, utter relaxation and pure escapism.
Situated a breezy 45-minutes from the capital and nestled between a backdrop of greenery and sand lies the understated yet chic Al Wathba, a Luxury Collection Hotel, Abu Dhabi.
As we drive up the sandy path, we immediately feel the worries of our work week wither away and as the anticipation grew, we knew we were in for a relaxing stay. The staff across the resort were all smiles, helpful and generally very welcoming, ready to assist with bags and show us around.
Offering understated luxury mixed with lifestyle activities suitable for adrenaline seekers and very few resorts provide this unique kind of desert escape. There are a plethora of activities to try out or master, including archery, desert walks, horse and pony riding, camel riding and (our personal favourite) the artificial surf machine, all to keep the little and big kids entertained.
For those who prefer a slightly quieter staycation, the pool area is serene and impressive in size – just don’t forget to visit the shimmering waters at sunset for that Instagrammable photo where the sunset drops nicely over the pool. Elsewhere, the Saray Spa boasts separate female and male hot tubs, sauna, steam room, snow cave and a salt therapy capsule.
There’s plenty of Arabic inspiration in the exteriors and interiors of the resort; think thatched-roofs with hanging lanterns, beautiful woven rugs and carved wooden headboards. Rooms are spacious and designed with luxury and comfort in mind, with a small seating area and a window looking out to the grounds. The bathtub also offers a view, with wooden shutters opening out to extend the size of the room.
Six dining destinations include Al Mabeet desert camp, Bait al Hanine for day to night dining, the FACT award-winning Terra Secca for Italian, Hayaakom in the lobby, Panache the pool bar, and Al Mesayan, a stunning rooftop bar and lounge. Each unique venue brings a different dining experience to Al Wathba, a Luxury Collection Hotel, Abu Dhabi.
We’re impressed by the overall experience of the dining experience at Terra Secca, where a pastoral environment allows horses to roam free as we dine. We were recommended the penne Bolognese and chefs signature steak – both were beautifully cooked and we could smell and taste all the flavours. In addition, the music and ambience made a perfect setting for a memorable meal with family or friends.
For heartfelt hospitality and a comfortable stay amidst the natural desert landscape, Al Wathba, a Luxury Collection Hotel, Abu Dhabi, ticks all the boxes for families, friends, couples and even solo visitors in search of pure relaxation and a One Thousand and One Arabian Nights inspired stay.
