A meteor shower will light up UAE skies next week

This is your chance to witness yet another cosmic event.

If you’re living in Abu Dhabi or Dubai, you must have noticed the bipolar weather this past week. As science suggests, the phases of the moon, tides, and all that scientific stuff play a huge part in the daily weather. And this time, the change in weather could be because a meteor shower is on the way.

Next week, the skies over the UAE are set to put on a spectacular show, and you won’t want to miss it. You’ll be able to catch a glimpse of the Da Vinci Glow and the Perseids Meteor Shower.

The Da Vinci Glow is a celestial phenomenon. Occurring at sunset, you’ll spot a crescent moon, but the outline of the full moon will be faintly visible too. After catching the Da Vinci Glow at sunset, you can head out to the desert for another spectacular show. As the moon’s glow dims, the skies will darken, providing perfect meteor-watching weather until sunrise. You don’t need any fancy equipment to enjoy the Perseid Meteor Shower—just your eyes and a comfy spot to sit back and watch the night sky.  Occurring annually between mid-July and late August, the Perseid Meteor Shower will reach its peak intensity around 12 and 13 August.

Meteors are tiny pieces of rock and dust left behind by comets and asteroids. When they hit the Earth’s atmosphere, they create bright streaks of light that we see as shooting stars. And the Perseid Meteor Shower is one of the most famous meteor showers. At their peak, you can see dozens of meteors per hour. This meteor shower happens when Earth passes through the debris left by Comet Swift-Tuttle, which last swung by in 1992. And while the Perseid Showers occur every year, the next big meteor storm is expected in 2028.

So grab your friends, pack some snacks, and head out for a night under the stars because this is one cosmic show you won’t want to miss.
