Created by Abdulla Lutfi, the showcase will blend manga storytelling with the UAE landscape.
Dubai is a melting pot of cultures promoting exchange and expression within the community. From architectural marvels inspired by Arabian designs to culinary festivals that blend flavours from the world, the city thrives on diversity. And it’s adding yet another feather to its cap with an Emirati Manga exhibition.
Running from 12 December to 2 January at Mestaria Gallery, Luffy x Lutfi: Emirati Manga will illuminate the Japanese tradition of storytelling with Emirati culture. This exhibition is a must-see for anime fans, art lovers, and anyone curious.
The Luffy x Lutfi: Emirati Manga exhibition will showcase the works of Emirati artist, Abdulla Lutfi. Known for his black-and-white illustrations, this exhibition celebrates the fusion between two rich cultures using the power of storytelling while evoking nostalgia.
Luffy x Lutfi: Emirati Manga draws inspiration from Abdulla Lutfi’s love for anime, particularly the iconic Japanese manga series One Piece. He reimagines the protagonist, Luffy, donning a traditional Emirati kandora. This not only shows the fusion of cultures but also explores themes of heroism, courage, and resilience.
But Abdulla Lutfi’s artwork goes beyond reimagining characters. He places them against Dubai’s skyline, inviting you to see One Piece characters on adventures through the city. Adding to the authenticity, the dialogue in his illustrations blends Arabic and English as well.
For the first time, visitors to the exhibition will also experience Abdulla Lutfi’s art brought to life through animation. This adds an interactive element, making the exhibition even more engaging.
Abdulla Lutfi’s artistic journey began in 2010, and he quickly became a popular name in the region. His work offers a raw look at life, transforming everyday life moments into anecdotes that are relatable across borders.
