Andy Warhol’s Pop Art pieces head to Dubai
Catch paintings of famous faces including Marilyn Monroe.
Andy Warhol’s work has been spotted everywhere, from the walls of New York galleries to cans of soup and even the AlUla desert. Now it is making its way to the Foundry in Dubai, as the exhibition Andy Warhol: The Glam Factory opens from 16 September to 31 October 2024.
This is a rare chance to see some of Warhol’s most famous paintings and prints in Dubai. The exhibition dedicated to the works of the King of Pop Art will feature a selection of Warhol’s works from 1954 to 1987, including his iconic Marilyn Monroe portraits. Visitors will have the opportunity to explore the art style that revolutionised the 20th century. Remember those colourful, cartoon photos that took over Facebook and Orkut profiles in the early 2000s? That’s pop art, pioneered by Warhol.
In addition to artworks, the Andy Warhol exhibition will also have an interactive room dedicated to the nightlife of 1970s New York City and inspired by the iconic Studio 54. This will give you a chance to step back in time to the era of disco and bell bottoms and experience the party scene that Warhol adored where he rubbed shoulders with the biggest celebrities of the time.
For those unversed with Andy Warhol, he started as a commercial illustrator but quickly became a world-renowned artist by transforming mundane objects and celebrity portraits into iconic pieces of art.
As for Foundry, it’s an art space located at the Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Boulevard that regularly hosts cultural events such as exhibitions, film screenings, and workshops. It fosters a thriving cultural scene in Dubai where art meets community.
Tickets for Andy Warhol: The Glam Factory in Dubai will go live on Wednesday, 17 July but you can register now to get first access.
