Get your culture fix at the largest heritage museum in the UAE.

If you think that Dubai lacks history, think again. Dubai boasts a rich cultural heritage, and visitors will now be able to learn more about the city’s origin story. His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President, Prime Minister and Ruler of Dubai announced the reopening of Al Shindagha Museum, and here’s what you can expect.

Al Shindagha Museum is on a mission to showcase the history and culture of the UAE. Spanning more than 310,00 square metres, it is the largest heritage museum in the country. Since its redevelopment, the site has been transformed into an open-air museum celebrating the city’s achievements.

Al Shindagha Museum

Al Shindagha Museum boasts 80 historical houses and 22 pavilions. Each pavilion has its own theme, from traditional crafts to people and faith. Look out for the houses that recreate life in the 1800s, and offer a glimpse into a traditional Emirati home.

Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum said: “Our museums serve as cultural beacons that embody our heritage. We want the world to know Dubai’s story and its history. Dubai has always been a hub for traders and those pursuing a better life, and it will continue to thrive as a centre of global civilisations on both cultural and humanitarian fronts.”

Her Highness Sheikha Latifa bint Mohammed bin Rashid added: “The Al Shindagha Museum plays a vital role in preserving tangible and intangible cultural heritage, which is the foundation of any civilisation. The museum embodies the ambitious spirit of Dubai and documents its success stories. It stands as a testament to the emirate’s journey towards the future.”

Following the reopening of the Al Shindagha Museum, it aims to attract more than one million visitors by 2025. See you there.
