Babushka in Dubai: The new Slavic restaurant celebrates grandma’s cooking

Located in JBR, the menu includes grandma’s traditional recipes. 

Babushka may remind you of the refrain of a Kate Bush song, but it’s also the name of a new restaurant in Dubai. In Russian, the name translates to grandmother and is fitting for a concept that serves comfort food with a contemporary twist. Located in The Pavillion at The Beach JBR, here’s what to expect from the Slavic spot.

Babushka in Dubai is inspired by traditional Slavic traditions. The menu includes starters, salads, soups, mains and even a section called grandma’s traditional recipes. The starters include Cod Liver, Homemade Pickles and Red Caviar. The mains include Chopped Beef Steak, Pozharski Chicken and Salmon Pie. Plus, grandma’s dishes include Beef Stroganov, Cabbage Rolls and Stewed Beef Tongue. 

The non-alcoholic drinks include coffee, milkshakes, mocktails, soft and tea. The alcoholic drinks list features crafted cocktails, homemade spirits and wine. The list also includes grandma’s recipes, which range from Bilberry to Rosehip Tea. 

Babushka in Dubai boasts a fun and funky décor and is Russian grandma chic. The cosy features wouldn’t look out of place in your grandparent’s home. The space includes floral patterns across the chairs and tablecloths, fringed lamps, old radios and patterned plates. 

The creators behind Babushka in JBR are clearly having fun with the concept. The promotional images and videos include elderly men and women in brightly coloured clothes and in playful poses. Plus, a grandma cooking to Kate Bush’s Babooshka, of course.

Babushka in Dubai is open from Monday to Thursday from 10am to midnight, and from Friday to Sunday from 10am to 1am.
