Laidback yet lively, the setting includes olive trees and views of Burj Al Arab.

With the likes of French patisserie Margaux, Chinese restaurant Zheng He’s, and Mexican eatery Tortuga housed under the same roof, Jumeirah Mina A’Salam continues to draw foodies from across the city. The sprawling luxury resort will soon add an Italian concept to its line-up, Cala Vista, and it’s expected to open its doors in January.

Taking up residence on the beachfront of Jumeirah Mina A’Salam, the new concept promises to bring a laidback yet vibrant Italian experience with a lively day-to-night ambience. And whether it’s a lazy lunch, an aperitivo, or an intimate dinner on the roster, guests can expect to be whisked away to the charming southern coast of Italy upon arrival. Set among olive trees, complete with striking views of Burj Al Arab, the space has been designed with rustic-chic elements to create a sense of tranquillity.

At the helm, with over 14 years of culinary experience, is Head Chef Luca Crostelli, who happens to be the son of award-winning chef Beatrice Segoni (of Pierchic fame). Crostelli grew up in a family-owned restaurant inspired by his mother and grandmother. From sneakily eating pieces of fresh pasta rolled by his grandmother when she wasn’t looking to shadowing his mother around the kitchen, he developed a deep passion for the culinary arts from a young age. Now, committed to preserving culinary traditions, the chef aims to stay grounded in his Italian heritage.

At Cala Vista, Italian comfort food is the order of the day, so expect to dine on speciality pasta, delicious grills, wood-fired pizza, and decadent desserts — the showstopping tiramisu included. A signature offering, Cala Vista’s take on this classic will be prepared tableside. Elsewhere, signature dishes will be matched with a list of alluring seaside cocktails including the legendary house Negroni and an extensive wine list starring several varieties of Italian grape. Welcome to la dolce vita.
