The upcoming restaurant aims to shine a spotlight on Singaporean Malay cuisine.
The last quarter of the year is here, which means good weather is coming to the UAE. And as the cooler season approaches, Dubai is bound to see many restaurant openings. One of these new additions making its way to the emirate is Harummanis Dubai, backed by the acclaimed chef Akmal Anuar.
Akmal is the culinary mastermind behind Dubai favourites like 3Fils, 11 Woodfire, Goldfish, and Osteria Funkcoolio. Now, he’s introducing Harummanis from Singapore to Dubai. Located on Al Wasl Road, this new restaurant will showcase Singaporean Malay cuisine.
As you step into Harummanis Dubai, you’ll notice how this rustic space merges old-world charm with modern design. The setting is warm and welcoming, paying homage to the Singaporean Malay culture of sharing.
The menu at Harummanis Dubai promises a mix of traditional dishes with a contemporary twist. While more modern dishes feature the likes of Beef Cheeks Rendang, cooked in coconut stew, and Ketoprak, an Indonesian salad reimagined with a Japanese twist. Dishes from Akmal Anuar’s mother, such as sambal, also grace the menu.
Harummanis takes inspiration from Akmal Anuar’s childhood, including the name, which is a beloved mango in Malay culture. But that’s not all that is. It’s also the same name that Akmal Anuar’s mother, Raja Paridah, chose for their family’s humble hawker stall. This stall has been serving Singaporeans for over 32 years, and with Harummanis Dubai, the chef is honouring his parents’ legacy while presenting these nostalgic flavours to the world.
Currently, Harummanis is wowing diners in Singapore’s Kampong Glam district. The restaurant’s Dubai opening in December 2024 will mark the first international outpost for the dining concept. By bringing it to the UAE, Akmal Anuar aims to give diners a taste of Singaporean Malay cuisine and his family heritage.
