The cute café celebrates the Japanese character.

It’s time to say Konnichiwa to the Rascals Bakehouse Hello Kitty pop-up. The popular bakery has drawn inspiration from the Japanese character, and following its successful pop-up at Sole DXB, the concept is expanding to the new bakehouse in Wasl Square for a limited-time pop-up from 29 November.

At the Rascals Bakehouse Hello Kitty pop-up, the windows include an eye-catching Hello Kitty image, drinks are served in pink and green striped cups with a Hello Kitty face, and pretty pastries have been created to celebrate the occasion. Plus, there is special merchandise available with Rascals Deli and Hello Kitty branding.

Rascals Bakehouse serves a range of baked goods, pastries and speciality coffee. If you suffer from food indecision, the counter showcases the creative concoctions. Guests can also watch the chefs at work in the kitchen, as they create pastries fresh from the oven.

The limited edition Hello Kitty items include Strawberry Croissants, Victoria Cake and Hello Kitty Bow Ties filled with Raspberry Cheesecake, Pistachio or Nutella. The limited edition drinks include the Strawberry Dream and The Kawaii, which combines matcha and strawberries.

Hello Kitty was created by Yuko Shumizu. The character was originally known as the white kitten with no name. The name eventually came from Lewis Carroll’s Through The Looking-Glass. In 1975, the image first appeared on a vinyl coin purse. It wasn’t until the 1990s that it was marketed around the world, and grew in popularity among teenage girls.

Today, Hello Kitty is estimated to be worth $8 billion a year. UNICEF appointed Hello Kitty as a children’s ambassador, and Japan appointed Hello Kitty as a tourism ambassador. The brand recently went viral with the revelation that the character is not actually a cat. “Hello Kitty is not a cat, she’s actually a little girl who weighs three apples and is five apples tall, and grew up in the London suburbs,” the company announced during the character’s 50th anniversary earlier this summer.
