The pop-up includes shopping, snacks and shows.

Souk Madinat Jumeirah is home to many exciting cafés, restaurants and shops, from Americano to folly by Nick & Scott. Now, there’s one more exciting reason to visit, as Not A Space has moved from Sharjah to Dubai, and opened Not A Majlis inside the souk.

Not A Space pop-up was previously located in Al Faya, and has now created Not A Majlis in Souk Madinat Jumeirah. Now, you can swap sand between your toes for the sound of stall sellers and the aroma of incense sticks. The concept has rebranded for Ramadan, and adopted a new playful title. So, if you’re after an old-school majlis with a difference, this is well worth a visit.

Not A Majlis is located at Fort Island, and boasts Insta-worthy views of the lush lakes, Arabian-inspired souk and iconic Burj Al Arab. The drinks range from coffees to hot chocolates, and the food ranges from burgers to pasta. Plus, there are shopping stalls selling clothes, jewellery and more.

The family-friendly features include modern and traditional games, from board games to video games. We’re talking PlayStations with multiple controllers, so you can let out your competitive streak. We also spotted bean bags for lounging and illuminated decorations, from a moon decorated in fairy lights to lit-up walls.

Lookout for the stage, which hosts live entertainment – oud players, anyone? Plus, there is the traditional Ramadan cannon, which gets fired at sunset to mark the end of the day’s fast.

If you want to visit Not A Majlis, it’s only open for a short time. The pop-up is open daily from 6.30pm to 3am, and runs until the end of Ramadan.

Ramadan Kareem.
